Katie Holmes has signed with a new publicity agent, just days after it was announced that she had filed for divorce from Tom Cruise.

The 33-year-old Batman Begins star is believed to have fired her old agent, Ina Trecoikas, earlier today and has now signed to an new PR company.

It’s a clear sign that the brunette beauty is keen to make a fresh start as she starts life again, following her marriage split.

"Actress Katie Holmes has left her publicist at Slate PR and has signed with BWR Public Relations,” a spokesperson told The Mirror.

"Following the announcement of her divorce from Tom Cruise, she is now represented by Leslie Sloane in the New York office and Nanci Ryder in Los Angeles."

Former Dawson’s Creek star Katie had been married to Tom, 49, for five-and-a-half years, following a whirlwind romance.

Tom proposed during a break in Paris in the summer of 2005 and the couple married in a scientology ceremony in an Italian castle in late 2006.

Tom and Katie - nicknamed TomKat - used to regularly attend red carpet events together, but have rarely been spotted together in recent months. Then on Friday (June 29) it emerged that Katie had filed divorce papers citing “irreconcilable differences”.

The star’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe confirmed the split, releasing a statement on behalf of the star, which said: “He said: ''This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest.''

Tom’s representative also released a statement which said: ''Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.''

Neither Katie nor Tom has commented on the reasons behind the split, but Tom’s strong links to the scientology faith are rumoured to be a key factor.

Katie was previously engaged to actor Chris Klein before dating Tom Cruise, while the Hollywood star has been married to both Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.

The couple have one daughter together, Suri, six. Katie reportedly filed for divorce in New York rather than in California where the couple live, as she is more likely to gain full custody of Suri there.
